#FM17 | Teams to manage

Same as last year I tried to search some interesting clubs for new Football Manager game. The list of the teams bellow is not typical list of recurrent teams like Parma, Portsmouth, Manchester United etc. I selected teams from not so common nations because they are interesting for me.

I hope one of them could be interesting for you as well and if not, sorry for that 🙂

The club was established in 2006 and was based on the Belarusian First League club Smena Minsk. FC Minsk took over Smena’s license and was able to start immediately operating in the Belarusian First League without having to first play in the Second League.

fk_minsk-2_logoIn the club’s inaugural season in the First League, they were able to finish in first place guaranteeing them promotion to the Belarusian Premier League.
A 3rd-placed finish in 2010 saw FC Minsk embark on their first ever European campaign in the 2011–12 UEFA Europa LeagueThey beat AZAL Baku in 1st Round but they were eliminated by Gaziantepspor in the 2nd Round.

The biggest achievement so far is the win in Belarusian Cup in 2013 and 3rd place in the league in 2010. FC Minsk Stadium has a 3000 capacity with artificial grass.

BATE won the Belarusian Premier League 10 times in a row since 2006. Could you end their domination?

Nogometni klub Široki Brijeg is a Bosnian professional football club based in Široki Brijeg, Bosnia and Herzegovina that currently plays in the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

logo-nk-sirokiConsidering the size of the town, NK Široki Brijeg has had a great deal of success and has started to expand that success to European Cups as well in recent years as is demonstrated by the club being a regular competitor in European Cups for the past 8 years.

But only in preliminary rounds as they never went through to the Group Stage of Europa League or Champions League.

Club is two times Bosnia and Herzegovina league champions from 2004 and 2006. They also won domestic cup twice. They play on Pecara Stadium, a modern stadium with a capacity of about 8,000. The stadium itself meets all UEFA criteria. The club also has a fully equipped sports and recreational center just outside town which is used as training grounds for the team.

New era with the new name. FC Lokomotiv Sofia was a Bulgarian football club who won the domestic league four times in the history but due to financial problems club was dissolved.

lokomotiv1929sofiaAfter the dissolving of the original club, some of the legends of the team forme a new club and the youth academy is moved there as well.

On 29 July 2016, team was officially approved for the new Bulgarian Second League, skipping one level in from the Bulgarian football together with Tsarsko Selo Sofia.

However, the team cannot promote to First League until 2018-19 season due the rule that a team can play in the highest level only after 3 seasons of existence!

I think it’s aboslutely great challenge to build very strong young squad from your own players before you will be allowed to promotion!

If you want to play in French second tier it would be a little harder to choose one club as there are several clubs with a lot of history and we can call them as fallen giants. You can choose between Sochaux, Reims, Lens, Strassbourg, Le Havre or Auxerre as well.

It could be very interesting save with all of them…

Shelbourne were founded in Dublin in 1895. In 1904 the club joined the Irish Football League, which was then an all Ireland competition, before becoming founding members of the League of Ireland in 1921.

Shelbourne have won the league 13 times and are one of three clubs to have won both the IFA Cup and the FAI Cup. They play their home matches at Tolka Park, in the Dublin suburb of Drumcondra.

shels_logo_smlThe club colours are primarily red and white, with home jerseys being predominantly red. “Shels” is the club’s most common nickname, an abbreviation of Shelbourne.

In the 2004/2005 European season, Shelbourne became the first Irish club to reach the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

Their performances in European competition and former striker Jason Byrne being capped for the Republic of Ireland whilst with the club, gained Shelbourne international exposure. The club lost their Premier Division licence for the 2007 season due to the club’s debt situation. Since then, Shelbourne have mainly played in the second tier of the League of Ireland.

Serie B champions from 1954 play in Lega Pro Group C in the 2016/2017 and you will start the third tier with seven points deduction due to a financial problems in the past. That’s my biggest argument why to play with them…

Catania play their matches at Stadio Angelo Massimino with a 20,266 capacity and owner of the club is Davide Franco.

Ferenc Puskás scored 352 goals in 341 matches for Budapes Honvéd. Can you find, buy or develop player who will beat this great record?

Originally formed as Kispest AC, they became Kispest FC in 1926 before reverting to their original name in 1944. The team enjoyed a golden age during the 1950s when it was renamed Budapest Honvéd SE and became the Hungarian Army team.

444px-fc_honved_budapest-svgThe club’s top players from this era, Ferenc Puskás, Sándor Kocsis, József Bozsik, Zoltán Czibor, and Gyula Grosics formed the nucleus of the legendary Hungarian team known as the Mighty Magyars and helped the club win the Hungarian League four times during the 1950s.

During the 1980s and early 1990s the club enjoyed another successful period, winning a further eight Hungarian League titles. They also won league and cup doubles in 1985 and 1989. In 1991 the club was renamed Kispest Honvéd FC and adopted its current name in 2003.

The last league title was won in 1992/1993 season. Current squad consists mainly of Hungarian players with some citizens. And your Chairman will be George Hemingway.

The club has won numerous championships, and was a dominant force in the 1960s and 1980s. At present Górnik has won the most titles in Polish football.

181px-gc3b3rnik_zabrze_crest-svgThe club plays in a white or dark blue-red kit, and is based at the Ernest Pohl Stadium with more than 24K capacity. Their main local rival is Ruch Chorzów.

The fans of Górnik waiting for the league title from 1988 and for domestic cup trophy from 1972. They finished 15th in the table at the end of the 2015/2016 season what meant relegation to the second tier.

Youth teams are much more succesful then senior squad as Under 19 and Under 17 teams competing for league titles in their categories.

This club I selected because of their real life performances in the 2016/2017 season.

soimii_pnacota_logoThey play in the Romanin second tier and their statistics were – 9 loss in 9 matches with score 1:67. They also had/have issues with the squad as they traveled to several matches with only 12 players.

They play their matches at Otto Greffner stadium with 1500 seats. Their colours are black and white.

They won two straight promotions in 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 seasons and they finished 9th i the last season in second tier.

It could be fun…

I know there are many and many other interesting teams around the world. I selected these as I could imagine to play with.

If you have some suggestions let us all know in the comment section…

  1. FC Lokomotiv 1929 Sofia looks like an interesting concept, and if you don’t do that, I just might give it a go myself!

My idea would be to play as Agrotikos Asteras FC in Greece’s second division. The club was founded in the 1920s by Greek refugees, from Asia Minor. The club’s most successful year was just a couple years ago when they first promoted into the second division. A Greek team would be an interesting idea, because no Greek team has ever won the European competitions. In ’71, a team hit the finals of the European Cup, but lost, and in ’77 another made the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, but also lost.

Also, since the late 1920s, only 5 teams have won the Greek Superleague. An interesting challenge would be to help Agrotikos Asteras into the top-tier, then work to domestically become the new dominant team, whilst aiming to become a reputable club in European football.

    1. Just go for it 😉 I will probably play for some bigger club in Beta version and I’m still not sure if I will play some challenge like in previous years.

But I agree that Greece could be fun and it’s one of my favorite option for FM17 if there will be good database with lower leagues. I really love Rodos and there are two teams (Rodos F.C. & GAS Iaiysos 1948 F.C.) so I would like to play for one of them. They are in third tier and it has to be unlocked in editor.

  2. Now that the crazy restructuring of Belgian lower division is done, I think I’ll start my long-term save career there. Probably playing the club of the neighborhood where I’ve spent 4 years while living in Brussels: Union Saint-Gilloise. Or the historical Beerschot Wilrijk, which is now in Third Division. But that it’ll only be after the full version is released, in the meantime I’ll experiment with some big club just to familiarize with the new features and ME.
