In last update of my Spartans FC save I wrote about summer transfers and club changes before 2025/2026 season. Our main goal for this season was to win third Premier League title in a row. And third FA Cup title in a row. Let’s look at our season review…
It was very intersting campaign. Unlike the previous two seasons Celtic was much heavier opponent. During the summer they bought some very good players and during the season they were up to ten points ahead of us. But…
…we managed to reduce their lead right before the last five matches to one point. In these last matches we played against Celtic at their venue and we beat them 2-1 thanks to a goal by Brian McShane in the 92nd minute. As a result, we moved to first place thanks to it. In addition, Celtic lost to Aberdeen after it and we we were able to celebrate the third title in a row.
Scottish FA Cup
The key moment was in Quarter Final where we met Celtic Glasogow but we beat them 3-1 thanks to goals by Paterson, Adams and McShane. We won the trophy third time in a row after 4-2 win over Inverness CT in the final.
This cup was no priority for us in this season and we los in the Quarter Final with Hearts after penalties. It happened at a time when we had a very demanding schedule and the players were tired.
We started our way to the Group stage in the third preliminary round with Slovakia side Spartak Trnava. We won 5-1 in the first game at home and won 5-4 in the second leg. We were through to the Group stage thanks to a comfortable 3-0 win and 0-0 draw with bulgarian champions Botev Plovdiv.
The draw of the Group stage was very cruel – Real Madrid, AS Roma and Olympique Lyon. The key matches were with Lyon and we managed to draw 1-1 at their ground and beat them 4-2 in last game of the group. We tied 1-1 with Real Madrid at home what was a great succes for our side. Thanks to a last win against Lyon we finished third in the group same as last season and we were through to the Europa League…
We were in the Semi Final last season in which we lost to PSG. And we met this team again in the 1st Knockout Round. But this time we were successful. Both games ended up in a draw but we scored a goal in 94th minute in the second leg in Paris so we advanced to the next round thanks to a away goals rule.
Next opponent was Valencia. And we were successful again after a 2-2 draw in Spain and 2-1 win at home. In Quarter Final we met Liverpool and we lost the first game at Anfield 2-3 but we managed to win 2-1 in the second leg and we were through to the Semi Final thanks to away goals. Again!
A similar scenario was repeated even in Semi Final with Olympique Marseille. We beat them 1-0 in the first leg at home and lost in the second leg. Our opponent for Europa League was Bayer Leverkusen.
They took 1-0 lead in the 6th minute thanks to Thomas Schneider but Brian McShane equalised in the 48th minute. Same player scored two minutes into the first half of the Extra-time but Leverkusen equalised after start of the second half of the Extra-time. Penalties!
Scullion, Salvi, Crawford and Sutherland scored – Mcshane missed the target in the second series. Bock and Lewandowski missed the target for Leverkusen and we were able to celebrate a huge succes in the club history! We have won the Europa League!
